About Aloha Social Services Bangladesh (ASSB)
Aloha means Welcome in Hawaii, USA. Aloha Social Services Bangladesh (ASSB) is an NGO established at Dinajpur in 1998. It is the brain child of a family of five sister and two brothers including their spouses and inspired by their parents Mohammad Ali and Fayzun Nessa they launched a Trust namely MAFTA at their Dinajpur residence. Subsequently they extended its interventions at Mobarakpur of Naogaon District. The trust provided pre-school education and free medical and services to the disadvantaged poor of the areas. Their success encouraged others including Aloha Medical Mission of Hawaii, USA to join hands in 1999. Thus the name Aloha Social Services Bangladesh was derived. |
Aloha Social Services Bangladesh (ASSB) is a politically independent, non-profit organization, located in the North Western area of Bangladesh. In February 1998, the organization was founded for welfare of poor, vulnerable people specially women and children who are most vulnerable because of poverty, lack of education and exploitation by society. The main focus is to provide education (formal & non-formal), health care services, life skills training and shelter as well as financial support for income generation activities to elevate poverty. At present total number of regular paid staffs are 325 among them about 20% are professional staff and rest are field operation and support staff (around 35% are female). These staffs are involved with the 3 schools under the Education Program, 2 Health Services Centre and Hospitals, 9 branches of micro-finance program under the Economic Empowerment Program, 3 donor funded projects under the Integrated Family Development Program. The fleet of professional staff with extensive experiences and specialization in the areas of Education, Health, Integrated Development and Climate Change Adaptation, Economic Empowerment, Water and Sanitation, etc working for establishing rights of poor, marginalized people in the northern Bangladesh.
